Hilde Absolon *

(born Bozen in 1935; lives in Vienna)„... reißt von des Lebens Glücksgewebe ein Faden nach dem anderen ab“, carpet picture, titled, signed and dated Hildegard Absolon 1987-1988, tapestry in linen, wool, cotton and silk, 180 x 126 cm, (K)

Full-page colour illustration in: Hildegard Absolon, Malen mit Fäden, Bildteppiche 1982-2000, published by Gachnang & Springer, Bern-Berlin, 2002 Exhibited: Konfrontationen, as part of the Frauen Kulturwoche Vienna, 1982, Messe Palast (illustrated in the catalogue) Malen mit Fäden, Kunst. Raum Dornbirn, 1995, as part of the „Vakanz“, Vorarlberg This tapestry is the result of examining the comparison between fate and weaving, a comparison often used in literary debate. The quote is taken from a Schubert Lied and served me as the guiding theme for a free improvisation with autobiographical content. This work was created without a preliminary sketch, one picture after the other, just as they came to me. The tearing off of threads, the process of the „happy canvas“ being rendered threadbare, can be analogously expressed through weaving techniques. Hildegard Absolon. Provenance: Private property, Lower Austria.
